cupcake tower

I have been searching for cupcake towers for my daughters birthday and found nothing I liked that wasnt $60 per tower. So after many sites of tutorials I decided to purchase things to make my own.

$11 at Goodwill. 4 silver type platters and 2 candlesticks
$11 at Joannes one can of primer and one can of white spray paint.
$3.99 for E-6000

Wash and dry the platters and candlestick removing any glue. Spray 2 light layers of primer, flip and repeat. Make sure you are protected from any wind or it WILL overspray.

Once pieces are completely dry. measure and mark the center of the plates with a piece of tape. Apply glue to top of candlestick. this will go on the bottom of the top plate to provide more strength to the upper platter. The smaller (top) of the candlestick will be attached to the middle of the bottom platter. This will allow for more room on the bottom platter for cupcakes.

The cupcakes wont touch the actual stand and I will cut a liner to provide an extra layer of protection.

  2. These came out great and look better than anything you can buy at HomeGoods. I like the oval and rectangular shapes - unique.

  3. Many thanks! It was a shot in the dark, and I wasnt sure how they would turn out. I tried posting a picture of the finished product, but the blog is giving me issues. :)

  5. I saw your comment on the "comment" post on Crafterminds.com so thought I'd come over and give you some comment love! I really love these cupcake stands you made. How resourceful of you! How was the party?

P.s. Two reasons you may not be receiving comments very often is that you have word verification turned on. (defaulted on in Blogger ;-(. ) And, the posts without pictures don't draw your reader in as much as the posts with pictures. You can always purchase a photo from iStockPhoto.com or just snap something quick for the post. That's just my opinion. ;-) Have a great weekend!
